Bec, ![]() Mama Abby, Katie, and Emily 1. Real Name/Screen Name? Bec/Bec 2. Why do you spend so much time at Mommy's Break Room? I have known a lot of the members here for several years, and they, apparently, still like me, and enjoy having me around! 3. What are your hobbies? I have a lot of hobbies. I love to read, I love fiber art. I went to college and have a degree in Fine Art. I was specializing in photography and fiber art (book binding, paper making, weaving, etc.). I have my own loom, and want to get back to that when the girls are older. 4. What is the proudest moment in your life? I think finding out that I was strong and a good mother. This has happened a few times throughout my mothering career. When I finally stood up to the pediatrician and took control of breastfeeding my first baby, when I pumped exclusively for my second baby, when I took control of my body and made the decision for my babies to have two home births after a cesarean and proving that I could push my babies out of my body without their help, when I used all my knowledge to succesfully nurse my third baby. I feel it whenever I advocate for my children, and when I see them growing into strong but sensitive and compassionate people in their own right. 5. What kind of mother are you? I guess the easiest way to put it is that I practice attachment parenting. But, it is so much more than that for me. It is about doing and really trying to live the life that I think is right for my children. It is about treating them as humans, and not little inconveniences. It is about teaching them to live compassionately, intelligently, to question what they see and what they are told, to be independent thinkers, even if that is uncomfortable. I believe in standing by them, and up for them when necessary. I believe in not passing my baggage down to them (even though this is very difficult at times to live up to). I believe that my job is to provide them a foundation where they can draw continuual strength from their entire lives. I feel strongly, that AP is the way to give this foundation strength. 6. If you could have dinner with ANYONE, who would it be and why? I always choose some historical figure when presented with this question, for some reason or other. It usually changes, but is always either someone I admire greatly, or despise and would love to confront. But, now, today, with where I am at present, I think I would like to have dinner with my maternal grandmother. I want her to see and know her great grand children, to know that I am doing a good job with them, and how wonderful a husband I chose. But, mostly, because I would love to just spend one more day, one more hour with her. She's been gone for 23 years, and I still miss her. 7. What is your favorite thing about being a mother? Oh, how can I pick just one thing? I love seeing myself and my husband in my children's eyes. I love seeing my children growing. I love hearing them learn to talk, deal with conflict, play with each other. I love seeing them relate to others on their own level. I love seeing them succeed, and knowing that they have the strength to overcome when they fall down. I love being the first person they see in the morning, and the last person kissing them good night in the evening. I love knowing that they are my family. I love when they hug me, and have cried each time they first told me they loved me. Maybe it is just a simple thing that I love the most, but it means everything. It is the unconditional love that I have for my children, and that they have with me. 8. Why did you choose your screen name? it's my name! 9. How many kids did you want when you were younger? 3 10. How many kids do you want now? 3 11. What is your favorite popsicle flavor? purple Back to Forums
